Existing resources

A clean room laboratory (Class 100) is available for the determination of organic species and trace elements in polar snow and ice. A cold room laboratory (-20 °C), equipped with a laminar flow bench, and a continuous flow analysis system is available for sample treatment. A triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization (HPLC/ESI-MS/MS) and GC-HRMS laboratories are available for the determination of levoglucosan and other organic species. An Element2 ICP-SFMS (Finnigan MAT) and an Agilent 7500 ICP-QMS, both equipped with the cold plasma option and the latter with an integrated sample introduction system are available for determination of trace elements. The laboratory has a worldwide reputation for its research in the field of ultra-trace analysis in environmental and biological material and it is particularly renowned for its studies in polar ice and snow in the framework of international programs.
