Piero is a Post-Doc researcher at the IDPA – CNR (Institute for the Dynamics of Environmental Processes of the Italian National Research Council).

Within the EHI project, Piero studies potential anthropogenic influences on the Northern Hemisphere Holocene fire regime. He aims to assess whether fire activity anomalies of the past 10,000 years may be related to the advent of Modern Humans, and to compare Holocene fire activity with fire during the previous Interglacial (warm) period, the Eemian (130,000 - 116,000 years ago).

Research Interests

- Long-term reconstruction of paleofire activity from Arctic and Antarctic ice cores chemical analyses.
- Development and application of analytical metodologies based on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS-MS) for the determination of the specific biomass burning marker levoglucosan on the NEEM ice core during the last 125,000 years.
